Our Winter Fayre and Lights Switch-On are coming soon!

Raising a family at the Farm

Regarded as common, but rarely seen, we have Great Spotted Woodpeckers nesting on site, here are some snaps of Mum & Dad servicing the nest.

Plans in progress

Any recent visitors will have seen a number of general improvements around the site, but there is still more we'd like to do, some of the plans for the future are listed below, but watch this space and follow our Facebook and Instagram @ricelanecityfarmofficial - for targeted fundraising campaigns.

The Dove Gate has been out of use for some years, we have now completed the work to allow the gate itself to be opened, and a new gate and short run of fence are needed to maintain the safety of livestock grazing in "Large Tressell" Field. Hard work from some of our volunteers and trustees has also meant we now have a ramp built, allowing prams and wheelchairs access from Hornby Road too!

New children's play area - the existing playground has lasted fairly well, but it's had a hard life with frequent use and we're needing to repair it often, a replacement is proposed but we'll need to raise funds for it.  UPDATE - slide has been repaired and reinforced, but we remind all users that the slide and swings are rated for children only!

More pram and wheelchair friendly access to the woodland walk -  pathways need to be re-built which is a big job, but the paths are currently very muddy when it's wet

Where are we?

Rice Lane City Farm is at the end of Rawcliffe Road, Walton L9 1AW.  We are quite easy to find, from Rice Lane just turn into Rawcliffe Road and go all the way to the end, cross the railway bridge and you have arrived!

You can also enter the site from the DoveGate on Hornby Road.

Opening Information

Rice Lane City Farm is open to the public from 10am until 3:30pm 7 days a week.  There is no charge for admission.  Well behaved dogs are welcome around the cemetery but must be on a lead, only assistance dogs are allowed onto the farmyard due to the smaller animals we keep on there.

About the Farm

Rice Lane City Farm has been established for over 40 years.  We occupy the site of the old Walton cemetery where we have 24 acres of fields and woodland.

You will find many of the usual farmyard animals here, most of which are very friendly.  These include UK native and rare breeds such as Ryeland sheep and Berkshire pigs.

Our woodland walk is a great opportunity to see and hear wildlife that you might not encounter elsewhere in Liverpool and all the paths on the site are wide enough for wheelchairs and buggys, please be aware though that some paths are unmade so can be a bit muddy in bad weather.

At busy times we have a volunteer-staffed tea room in the Old Chapel.
